Foam Based Fire Suppression Systems

Foam Based Fire Suppression Systems

Home arrow Solutions arrow Foam Based Fire Suppression Systems
Foam-based fire suppression systems provide the most reliable line of defence for facilities where flammable or combustible liquids are stored.
Unlike water, foam has the unique ability to blanket, separate, and cool. It cuts off oxygen supply, suppresses vapor release, and brings down the temperature of burning surfaces.

Foam systems must perform without fail, often in the most volatile environments imaginable. At Sharks India, we make systems for that moment of truth. Every component, from foam chamber to detection logic, is engineered to perform in synergy, ensuring containment before escalation.

Our systems comply with NFPA 11, OISD, and BIS standards, and are built for the diverse climatic and operational realities of Indian industrial sites.
Low Expansion Foam Systems
01

Low Expansion Foam Systems

Low expansion systems are designed for large surface hydrocarbon hazards, producing foam at an expansion ratio of up to 20:1. They deliver a dense, stable blanket that flows over flammable liquid surfaces to cut off oxygen and prevent reignition.

Our designs include foam pourers, chambers, and balanced pressure proportioning skids, ensuring accurate mixing and uniform foam spread even across vast tank diameters.

Applications: Refineries, tank farms, solvent storage areas, and chemical process zones.

Medium Expansion Foam Systems

Medium expansion foam systems (20:1 to 200:1) are engineered for spill control, vapor suppression, and bund protection. They generate a semi-stable blanket that expands rapidly to cover large spill areas while conserving water.

Our systems are designed for quick activation through fixed or semi-fixed foam generators with nozzle spacing optimized for uniform coverage and effective cooling.

Applications: Truck and rail loading bays, chemical plants, storage dykes, process plants, and packaging facilities.

High Expansion Foam Systems

High expansion foam (200:1 to 1000:1) is used where enclosed or subsurface areas demand rapid volume filling to displace oxygen and control fires.

At Sharks India, our systems use air aspirating foam generators that produce lightweight, voluminous foam capable of flooding large enclosures within seconds. They are engineered for spaces where traditional water or chemical suppression systems could cause equipment damage or electrical hazards.

Applications: Engine rooms, aircraft hangars, and marine environments.

Rim Seal Foam Systems

Rim Seal Foam Systems are specialized, fast-response fixed installations designed for floating roof storage tanks containing flammable liquids such as crude oil or gasoline. These systems protect the critical annular rim seal area where vapors are most likely to ignite due to lightning strikes, static discharge or friction.

Sharks India designs automatic and semi-automatic Rim Seal Systems using foam pourers, detection sensors, and independent foam storage tanks to ensure instant discharge upon fire detection. The foam forms a stable layer over the rim seal zone, preventing escalation and protecting the entire tank from catastrophic fire spread.

Applications: Floating roof petroleum tanks, oil depots, and fuel terminals.

Foam Concentrate and Proportioning Systems

Sharks India integrates a range of proportioning technologies, balanced pressure systems, bladder tanks, inline inductors, and foam pump skids, each calibrated to deliver consistent foam concentration across varying flow rates and operating pressures.

Our systems are compatible with multiple foam types including:

- AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam) – for hydrocarbon fires.

- AR-AFFF (Alcohol Resistant AFFF) – for polar solvents and mixed hazards.

- Protein and Fluoroprotein Foams – for high heat resistance and stable film formation.

Each system is tested and validated through full-scale discharge and proportioning tests to guarantee performance and reliability in the most demanding scenarios.
